Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Weird error when opening a skin in SKS5

By Posted March 25, 2008 21:12:15

I've been working on a new WB skin for a while. Created and edited primarily in SKS6, although I've had it open a couple of times in SKS5 to set System Fonts, etc.

Anyway, I went to open it in SKS5 again a day or so ago and got this weird error about the skin being a UIS1 skin and not being supported by SKS5. Here's a screenshot of the error

I believe this is the first time trying to open the skin in SKS5 after working on it with SKS6 ver 6.00.003, which I recently upgraded to with SDC. I haven't tried editing any other skin in the latest SKS6 yet to see if I get the same error when opening the skin in SKS5 afterward.

Anyone seen this or have a clue what caused this ... other than the possibility of the newer SKS6 changing something in the skin that SKS5 didn't like?

Oh yeah, one other bit of weirdness ... although I can't say for sure it didn't exist before the SKS6 update. Despite the entry of my personal data (author name, website, etc), the preview in WB config still shows Stardock as the author of the skin.

Update:

I 'fixed' both these issues by opening the skin in SKS6, exporting to a WBA, changing to a different skin in WB config, deleting the one I had been working on and re-adding it using the WBA I had created.

The odd thing is that I have two other skins in progress that have never been made WBAs and they don't give me the error in SKS5 nor do they have Stardock listed as the author in WB config preview.

It would be nice to know what it was about that skin that flagged it as UIS1 to SKS5.

Started a ticket 3 days ago (Wednesday, 26th), maybe Support can shed some light.

You can try what I did in the previous post, lovely

Haven't heard back from Stardock Support yet, so it's still unknown as to what causes SKS5 to think the skin is in UIS1 format.

In my case, performing the steps I listed apparently changed something in the skin enough to satisfy SKS5.

...I did that, but it`s still not working!!!
Maybe I did something wrong???!!!!
It´s driving me nuts!!!!
Please let me know if you found something out!!!

Update ..

I heard from Mike with support. Unfortunately, there's not really an answer for why SKS5 does this on some skins. And since it is no longer supported/developed, the best we can do is try to find a workaround. The steps I took worked for me .. sorry I can't offer more.

I have let Mike know of the shortcomings of SKS6 which is the reason for continuing to use SKS5. Hopefully, they will implement all the features in SKS6 soon, so we won't need SKS5 any longer.

...thank you so much for your reply!!!!
I realy appreciate it a lot!!!!
Well, I hope they update SK6, because the way it is now it`s not usable for me, like Shelby already sayd, it`s hard to edit colors with now preview.......!!!

Thanx again!!!

And since it is no longer supported/developed

A shame too...SKS5 is a better tool than 6...I would pay extra for a version of 5 with vista capabilities.

...I agree with you a 100% I.R.!!!!!!!
We should make Stardock that suggestion!!!!!
Maybe they`ll do that!!???
