I have been watching this program develop since November and it’s coming along nicely. Yes, Desktop Effects brings the ‘dream’ wallpaper effect to XP users as well. So now all you XP users can have the ‘dream effect’.
The program has been developed by a Dutch Programmer Andreas Verhoeven. Desktop Effects is written in C++, using Visual Studio 2005. The internal archtitecture of DesktopEffects is done by making use of COM objects, where each effect is an implementation of IAveDesktopEffect which can be hosted inside an IAveDesktopEffectsHost object, which basically means everyone can write custom effects. Some of the effects that Andreas’s program can achieve are very interesting. Use a video as your background, fading wallpaper transitions and underwater wallpaper makes your wallpaper look like it is, well, of course, underwater. You can make your wallpaper into a huge scribble pad or a photo slide show. Or perhaps you might prefer a fire effect that follows your mouse or even snowflakes falling down your desktop. The possibilities are endless.
This neat little application is available at Andreas’s site Desktop Effects . Andrea’s is also keen to encourage people to write custom effects so please contact him via the website if you are interested.
Available for Vista, XP and Multi-Monitor users.
Please visit Desktop Effects website here http://www.desktopfx.net/ where you can see everything in action via video plus there are screenshots, how to use reference and lots more on this clever little app.
