Does Every Movie Require a Sequel???

Can't they just let it go.......

I'm almost ready to kill someone if I see the sequel of one more movie....Don't get me wrong, some of them are very good, I'm just pissed at the people who dig up movies made years ago and whip up a quick sequel to get a quick buck.George of the Jungle, Peter Pan, Cinderella(I think...not sure), and others....half the time they don't even use the original cast and it's just some stupid joke. I think this little trend started around the time of the LOTR sequels started up and then every producer got the bright idea of "Hey, I bet I could rake in a few bucks by making a sequel of a movie from last millenium and torturing (not to mention disappointing) lots of fans of the original" it me or is this crap just getting out of control? Most of the best movies never had a sequel....pick out your top 10 movies and I can assure you that at least 4 to 7 if not more have no pansy ass sequel..... I think this is an injustice to all movie lovers and these idiots should be slaughtered and their intestines strung about the set of the most painful sequels their black hearts ever least that's my opinion....

Well, that wraps up this one....anything you want to add?....You're more than welcome to....

Unfortunately if it makes a profit they will make a sequel.  It's the same with network television, reality t.v. makes a profit so they exploit it and the mass public loves it...

psychx said all I was going to say, with the exception that some sequels are getting better.

I think, from a marketing point of view, sequels are seen as a good investment: they already have a built-in audience and have shown profit before. They are also easier to sell again than an original idea. But the sequel to Dirty Dancing? That's a crime against humanity.

Some movies require a sequel, like LOTR and Harry Potter, I guess. Spiderman could do with another one, but only if they are well made. Some of them are getting ridiculous though. Movies in general are getting ridiculous, but granted there is a goodly amount of decent movies.

Remakes are just as bad. My parents may see a trailer for some movie and I'll say "boy that looks funny" and they'll say "well you should have seen the original". I'm sure the remakes aren't nearly as good as the originals.
