Gaming laptop advice needed !

Hi dudes,

I know this is a little off the "Wincustomize" topic, but I dont know where else to get advice from...

I'm not a big gamer (yet) but I'd like to get into it and I have the cash for a new Alienware m9750 laptop with these specs:

Vista Ultimate
17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD
Dual 512MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7950 GTX - SLI Enabled
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7600 2.33GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB
4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz - 2 x 2048MB
250GB (250GB x 2) 5400 RPM SATA

I have been trying to get my head around the dx10, Vista, SLI etc compatability issues, lack of drivers, SLI issues and they may as well be typing in Zwaheeli, because that means nothing to me.  I read something about SLI in Vista will mean I'll only have one video card enabled !?!??
I know for a novice gamer I might be over speccing, but I do alot of photo/video editing etc etc etc and I'd rather over spec than under spec.   ...oh and I also have more money than sence.

Can someone please give me a crash course in what I should be looking for, what my gaming options/problems/performance issues will be with this set up !?
(Would I be better off going for the XP SP2 option ?
Will Nvidia bring out "drivers for SLI in Vista"  - and what does that mean !?)

Any advice would be helpfull
Thanks for your time !!!

Jack

I don't have Vista. So I can't help you there but you are looking great for XP.

I wish my setup was like yours.

I run Vista Ultimate and SLI and i haven't had any issues other than the Vista issues that exist regardless.

dual 7800GT's but really SLI isn't what people really think anyways, take the money that you would spend to get the second card and save up for a better single card and you will out-perform the step below. SLI just allows the video card to not work as hard because the card takes turns drawing the image with the second card. If you have the money buy 2 of the best cards on the market and then SLI is worth it.
