Wincustomize Bugs/Issues

Please use this post for reporting Wincustomize Bugs

By Posted April 13, 2007 09:12:55

While we would like to hope that the code we write is solid as a rock and has zero flaws, we know that just isnt the case 100% of the time. While Wincustomize 2007 is more stable and more reliable than it's previous version, it continues to grow, we continue to add features and expand upon existing features. A bug here or there might pop up. Please use this post for reporting problems you are facing, or issues you notice with Wincustomize.

Rest assured, a Stardock rep will be monitoring this post and helping out as much as possible. With your help, we can make sure that Wincustomize continues to run smoothly and with as little issue as possible.

You can't right-click and "save as" to download skins.  This is an intentional design decision.  You have to just click on the button and let the site fetch the file for you.

Of course i can (well i mean i could until today ... ) on the Download button, and i always do like this ...
At this time, with the trouble i mention, if i left click on it, it turns back on same page/URL ... (and off course no download)

This come in same time as to not be able to zoom previews ... and as i said both things are happening from time to time. As i don't change anything on my System, it's bound to be from the website (i think it' has something to do with cookies but not sure)

BTW i also get other troubles: when writing a post is very frequent that the different editing adds (choose color, smileys and so on) don't work, or that i get an error page when going on someone's profile and trying to use the "email" feature ...

There have been no changes at all to how downloads function in many months now.  We don't put up direct download links at any point to prevent people from hot-linking our skin files.

As to your zoom problem, you need to tell me exactly what's happening beyond "can't zoom".  Are you getting a blank page on the preview zoom?  An error message?  A preview for a different skin?

Any error you encounter you need to enumerate each fully.  We need error messages, specific details on how the error occured, can you consistently reproduce each?  The more details you provide, the greater the chance an issue has of being fixed.

Nope, i get the same web page (as if i didn't click to Zoom ...) Look closer to the shot i took, it's the same web page but if you look at the URL in the address bar it should be the "zoomed" page

BTW, i've tried different things, clearing again my web cache, deleting cookies and so, and it seems to me that this specific trouble is perfectly reproducible each time i enter Wincustomize at the URL http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx/ (which is the way i use since the begining of earth   )

If i enter at http://www.wincustomize.com then browse to skins the trouble doesn't exist

About the error concerning impossibility of using the email feature in users profile, i think it's probably because some users have not left an email adress, i just succeed to use on some other users ... but when it happen, here's the web page i get:

[copy ON]

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.1433; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.1433

And finally (for now   ) i can assure you that the right click on the download button of any skin works for me.

I'm going to ask a stupid question but when I log off of SDC where do I the temp files and cookies you clear out.
April 3, 2008 16:05:00
SDC uses Internet Explorer to handle all web surfing within the application.  Clear them via IE  (Tools -> Internet Options)

Hi. This bug has existed for some time, but it has bothered me enough to seek out this thread and report it. I could find no mention of it by browsing manually, since the search feature on WC forums throttles me, forcing me to wait 20+ seconds between each attempt. Super irritating for someone looking for help and terrible for usability. But anyhow... here is the bug:

In Firefox (at least), the red download button on a skin's page will disappear once it has been used. I assume this means the Visited state of the link is broken. Here is a screenshot.

cuts off smilies even w/mouseover

I'm getting this often with FF3RC2

Which version of FF are you using??

I was using FF3 RC1 up until a couple of days ago and now FF3 RC2 and haven't seen this problem.

I've gotten that with FF2, FF3 RC1, and FF3 RC2 ever since the forum upgrade but it doesn't happen as often anymore.

Sorry to bring back an 'old' thing (only seen this thread just now), but 'design decision' ain't working then.... cause I am very much able to right-click and save skins.
I do that all the time from the WB gallery. Hate the way WB's gets auto-installed.

I actually like having them auto install but after reading this I had to give it a try and it did work.

I am using 2.x. I shouldn't have to use an unreleased browser just to use this site.

The large, vertical "Walser" ads that I am being served when I come here are horrible! They max out my processor, and make the page stutter when I try to scroll. The ad doesn't appear correctly either, since it stutters as well.
I can run Dreams & Deskscapes fine, but those ads just destroy all usability when browsing this site. I cannot stress enough how bad they really are.

I will block them if I have to, but I actually like *some* of the advertising here. I would prefer not to have to remove it all. (shock)

Wasn't saying you should. I was just curious because I've never seen that error with 2.x or 3. Strange things happen at times.

Works fine with IE7,but we are in the wrong post, this is a forum bug.

Ads are a site issue.I'm a WC subscriber, clearing cookies or logout-login does not help much.It does not make them stop very long, they come back anyway.IE7 and FF3RC2
I would prefer not to have to remove it all.
I would.
